Eugene Stoner's rotating bolt design is employed in
the overwhelming majority of 5.56mm NATO combat
rifles including HK's new G36, although the design has
always exhibited one inherent shortcoming - a relatively
weak extractor spring. Armforte's staff, who were
involved in the design of the 5.56mm cartridge and
who have been involved in the genesis of the AR-15/M-16
family of weapons since the 1960s, have developed
a solution to the extraction problems that often plague
weapons which incorporate this bolt design. Their
D-Fender, a high-tech composite "D"-ring,
increases extraction force fourfold and can be retrofitted
to the bolt with no other modifications required. The
